Installing flash node

Installation is very straightforward and is not different to installing any other Drupal module.

  1. Download the latest release for your version of Drupal from the flash node project page.
  2. Decompress the package and upload it to your modules directory.
  3. Enable the module from the module administration page. Flash node appears under the "Other" category.
  4. Enable access to the flash node content type by granting permissions to the roles who are going to use flash node.

That's it. Flash node is set up and ready to go. When you click on Create content the new content type of "Flash" is available and ready to use.

If you just do a basic installation, as described above, then flash node will work, but only in its most basic mode. It will insert flash content in to the page using direct embedding and it won't be able to play back flv or mp3 files. To take advantage of javascript embedding and flv/mp3 support you will also need to install SWF Tools. However, it is recommended to test flash node is working before installing SWF Tools so that you can verify the flash node installation was successful. As of flash node for Drupal 6 the flash node help page displays a simple flash animation to help you check if flash content is being displayed properly.

There is additional information about using flash node with SWF Tools on this handbook page.
