I would like to know how to do two things. The first is more important.
1. How can I make Full HTML the default input type for specific content types?
2. How could I further refine this so it only appears this way for specific user roles when they edit said pages?

Go to site config, input
Go to site config, input formats, list, and select full html as the default. Or click on configure and set the roles as you see fit.
There is also this module that you may find helpful:

Hmmmm, I installed that
Hmmmm, I installed that module and tried setting Full HTML as the default for a user role I created and it says:
"Role 'role' is not allowed to use format Full HTML."
original question
Well the original question was not quite answered and if "The Al" has discovered an answer to his first condition I would love for him to share it with me, for I too have a need for this. I would like to only allow full html for the story content type and filtered html for all other content types. Roles are not important as a criteria only the content types. Any help appreciated with this for I cannot find the solution on this site. I am using Drupal 6.10.
Thanks
Eric

had you visited the link to filter_default and read the project page you would have been guided to http://drupal.org/project/better_formats which answers both questions where it concerns D6

Very quick response, you must live on these forums, awesome to have someone like you around. I mean that sincerely. It would have probably taken me days to find it haha. I did find some references to my search strings but all turned up short. It looks like I may need to use more general terms maybe on my searching for answers such as input format or formats etc. I think I am going to have to give you a nick name if you don't mind, I was thinking "Master of the Drupal Universe" (MODU). You have helped so many people out here, thanks for the help very much appreciated.
