I have been noticing an unhealthy trend develop in this forum in the past few months.

One trend is flooding the forum with posts about a particular hosting company or the other, vying for eyeballs from visitors, and bumping up the post several times a day.

The other trend is the adversarial attitude where someone consistently tries to malign hosts other than one they endorse, questioning ownership, and other things.

Both trends are unhealthy, and do not convey a positive image for either camp.

Can we please go back to the essence of what Open Source idealism is about? Can we realize that the pond is large enough for all the fish to swim in? Keep growing Drupal's usage, and there will be enough for everyone. This is not a "For me to win, others must lose" game? This is about collaboration for the benefit of everyone, end users, hosters, and developers.

Let us leave the unsavory tactics out of this project and community.

Again: everyone should win. Work from that precept, and things will work out for everyone.

I do not need to repeat what has been said, but I strongly agree with Khalid. Let us bring sanity back to Drupal forums

Thank you for that post, I'm sure most of us here feel the same way.

The one lesson I've learned from hunting for shared hosts is: Always be ready to move.

Hi,

I agree, it's not good for anyone to have these posts here. I realize you're referring to me (and a few others, but I'm the most noticeable, I suspect). I'd much rather be concentrating on other projects, but when I feel people are being taken advantage of, it really triggers something of a response from me.

I know I may be too persistent for some, but I feel compelled not to remain silent on these issues. If a company has a bad customer service record, people should know about it. If an individual is using a false name or making misleading claims, someone should point it out. Failure to do so will only encourage more of the same. The truth is never unsavory, even if I am sometimes overzealous in my presentation of it. Please don't shoot the messenger :)

My ultimate wish is that this forum should not be allowed to degenerate into an unfiltered spammers paradise. If more action is taken to prune the hyper-promotional activities of those who would abuse this forum, I suspect the signal to noise ratio would improve greatly.

I feel this will only become a bigger problem as Drupal begins to attract a wider audience. I would like to propose the creation of an advertiser code of conduct, one which would be vigorously enforced, but also provide fair opportunities to honest companies. Ideally, advertisers should have a separate forum, so the voices of normal users are not drown out.

... I attempt to stifle myself before he turns this thread into one of those threads ...

Well, at least you realize that to us observers it looks like you are playing a partisan grudge match :-}
I actually find your sniping somewhat amusing. Apart from the repetitive bits.

Going into endless threads with said parties just adds to the noise level.

The excessive postings and over promoting is being addressed with the relevant parties, and so far, there has been some improvement.

If there are future cases with the same people or new parties coming to the forums, please contact the Drupal Association, or the webmasters team.

Thanks
