Hey there I'm new to drupal and just completed a tutorial on themes and have a question see I'm trying to put together an online magazine and wanted to know how do the rest of the newspaper/magazine sites developed with drupal achieved their home pages where they have different types of content diplayed in one page (flash news player, news block, sports block, weather block, etc) is it done using blocks? is there a tutorial that deals with creating these types of pages in drupal??

Make a view, then put it in a panel. If that's what you were looking for.
