Description

See http://drupal.org/node/214292 for some discussion leading up to this...

The Drupal "advanced search" interface is currently a little confusing. Terms typed in the main search area get appended to whatever is entered in the advanced search area, and the main search and advanced search buttons have the exact same function.

A much cleaner interface (and more in line with what the user is expecting) would be to have the main search and advanced search actually be separate forms, with the advanced search form automatically prepopulated correctly with the original search keywords.

For example, if I type "a phrase" type:story into the main search box and then open up the advanced search fieldset on the results page, a phrase should appear in the "containing the phrase" section, and in the "only of the types" section the box next to "Story" should be checked...

subscribing, sounds like a good idea. I've also wanted to direct link to 'advanced search' before, but short of permanently expanding the fieldset haven't come up with much.

I'd like to be able to link directly to the advanced search. One should be able to link to it in a way that shows the advanced search expanded by default. Amazing how many folks miss this.

Also, just wondering where this is going from April.
