Description

This is just a task idea for now. I'm not really 100% convinced that this is a good task, but I've been kicking around the idea, so...

I think everyone can agree that GHOP was a resounding success. It resulted in a bunch of new contributors to the project, and really smart ones too. ;) I'm convinced that a huge factor in this success was the "week-long, bite-sized project" aspect, as that allowed many more mentors and contributors to take part than a longer-term commitment program such as Summer of Code.

However, GHOP is now over. :( And it was also limited to only the 8 or so projects that Google hand-selected, and it's fully possible that other open source projects want to run a similar program for their own communities.

So my proposal is this: Once we've had DROP running for a few weeks and have worked out all the kinks, what about a task that's taking the functionality @ drop.cwgordon.com and creating an install profile out of it? This way, numerous other projects could have all the administrative tools at their fingertips to run a similar program for their own communities, all powered by Drupal. :D

Sounds great, webchick!

My concern with this idea is that drop.cwgordon.com is currently running an extremely hacked version of userpoints. The benefits of these hacks would be impossible to reproduce without getting these changes into userpoints, which is highly unlikely as many of the bugs are apparently "by design."

As far as the changes last night, you could submit a patch to the module to allow each block to be configurable.

Ok, userpoints is sufficiently de-hacked to allow an install profile now.

so now the installatiion works, even the ****** color scheme form(i needed more than 1 week to figure it out working
i always tryed drupal_execute but it didn't worked, so i call the submit-function manually now

but i have a problem if the profile is finished the admin pages needs at least one or two minutes to get displayed
each other site (node/1...) runs perfect

i didn't cleaned code up yet, so don't be shocked :)
