I have no idea what you are talking about. I am sorry. As a matter of fact, I have no idea if this is spam.

I think it is spam, but if I am wrong, please accept my appologies.

pls help me guys i am struck with this option

Talking like a 13 year old AOL newbie isn't going to help your chances of getting support here.

Use plain and simple english rather than that messed up crap you spew.

It has nothing to do with whether english is your native language, but whether you post your question in a structured and logical fashion.

Hey Torch...

Am guessing and appreciate that English is not your first language...ignore the other responses on here...we're all not like that.

to be able to help...please simply answer the following questions:

(a) which version of drupal are you using?

(b) which module can you not set permissions for?

(c) in the best English you can muster...try outlining what you are trying to do. Are you just trying to switch on/off permissions for a certain USER ROLE to access a certain module?

(d) if possible email me or post a link on here to the problem site. It might make it easier to understand what is happening.

Am online today and will try and help if I can....if you're English isn't up to scratch...It might be worth clicking on your MY ACCOUNT link on drupal.org and then click on INDIA, it will list Drupal users in India who you could contact directly in your own language.

(when you're looking at a Drupal.org USER PROFILE, there is a tab at the top where you can contact people directly. Most have that enabled so you can email Indian Drupallers direct in your own language if you're finding it difficult to explain what the problem is)

Cheers..

Hi Torch..

I clicked through and the permissions page crashed my browser...prefer not to go back there but what I think has happened is you have installed some dodgy modules..there seems to be a huge amount of modules installed on your drupal site.

Recommend:

A) change the admin password as soon as possible

b) backtrack and disable recently installed modules.

I am guessing that you have inadvertantly installed a module not compatible with drupal 4.5 and when you try to open the permissions page...the "bad" module is breaking the system as drupal tries to load the permission settings from each module you have installed.

You have so many modules installed..it looks like that might be tricky unless you were keeping notes of what you were installing.

So..if I were in your shoes, I would go to ADMINISTER -->> MODULES and start disabling recently installed modules and try going back to the permissions page.

Hope that makes sense. And it would be good when you find out what caused the problem...if it is indeed a dodgy module...that you post back up on here in case someone else is having the same problem...or if it is a module that is supposed to work with 4.5 but doesn't.

Best of luck....and remember that a lot of the contributed modules you have installed are not OFFICIAL drupal releases..i.e. you install them at your own risk as it's impossible for the guys at Drupal to check every single code change or module submission.

When I first started working with drupal...I made the mistake of using a CVS module with a drupal 4.5 installation. A simple mistake to make for a non-programmer...but if you just remember the following it will help:

(A) before downloading and installing a module..double check that it is designed for use with the version of drupal you are using. i.e. a CVS module will not necessarily work with drupal 4.6. and a 4.5 module might/might not work with 4.6 etc.

(B) check the BUGS/ISSUES link on a module project before downloading and installing.

(C) bear in mind that the more contributed modules you install, the greater the risk of something going wrong. A good apprach would be to setup a seperate drupal test site and install/test new modules there before making "live" on your drupal site. And Always put new modules in their own new folder...so if the worst comes to the worst, you can simply remove the folder, which pulls the module out of your site completely. It's also easier to keep track of what you have installed when - as there is a date stamp on the new folders.

Hope that makes sense..

hello,

Is there any browser compatibility for
drupal 4.5.x version

thanks
cheers

Dublin Drupaller’s picture

Yes. Drupal 4.5. works in all browsers out of the box.

Some themes work in some browsers it depends on which theme you have installed...i see you're using the pushbutton theme...which is a bog standard theme that will work in most browsers.

If you haven't hacked the theme or added in something that would break it...I don't think it is a browser compatibility issue you are having Torch..otherwise you would not be able to see your site at all.

please note my previous post.

hi,

But still i have small doubt that i tried in
Internet browser 6.0 its not functioning
but i tried in Internet browser 5.0 its functioning

i hope u will solve this problem for me,

thanks

cheers

Dublin Drupaller’s picture

Sounds like you have already solved it...well done.

If you're able to see your admin permissions page in internet explorer version 5.0...well done..problem solved. now you just have to work out what is not working with IE 6.0 There are a lot of websites out there with compatibility issues/tips.

I haven't got IE 5.0 and tried looking at your site in firefox and it too crashed at your permissions page...so I still think it's a module issue...,,but if you have got it working in IE 5.0. well done.. and fair play to you...

glad to have been of help...when you have worked out what you have in your style sheet or theme that isn't working with IE 6.0. Please post it back up here so we can learn from your problems.

Cheers

Hi Torch...

You coudl do that...but I don't think it will solve your problem...I'm guessing, but based on what I've seen and what you have posted...there is an incorrect or "bad" module installed on your drupal site...

a "bad" module could be one that is uploaded incorrectly or got corrupt in transfer...or it could be simply a module that is not designed to be compatible with the version of drupal you are using.

By upgrading..you will not solve the problem in my opinion....

To answer you're question..."how long and which settings to change for installing drupal 4.6.?.." check out the installation & upgrading instructions that come with drupal 4.6. and the installation forum.

If I were in your shoes. I would tend to create a fresh install of drupal 4.6. instead of upgrading...and installing each new module, one-by-one...and double checking they are the correct versions carefully.

Once you have done that you can start transferring content across...or simply backing up your existing 4.5. database and upgrading it to 4.6.....

That is not something that will be done in 1 day I imagine.....and it's not something I would advise rushing. Judging by the amount of modules already installed on your 4.5 site...it will take a while.

Sorry...probably not the answer you're looking for...there is no quick fix. But you should learn from your mistake and when building your 4.6. version ....do it carefully...and slowly so it's easy to backtrack if you run into problems.

Might be an idea to check out the BEST PRACTICES section before you start with your 4.6.

Actually, you can usually tell if someone's native language isn't english as they will simply lack vocabulary. This guy on the other hand seems to have never heard of punctuation or phrase structure. It's just one big stream of words.

Of course he could be non-English and a kiddie :P.

I agree. I am non-english, and I also think it shows on us in that we spell english words wrong once in a while. This guy never does throughout the thread (as far as I can tell). I would also have guessed on someone pretending.

However, I'm glad not everyone of us are that suspicious though, or I wouldn't have gotten help my first time ;)

... then I felt guilty for assuming something negative. I saw someone else answer his post and saw that maybe I was wrong. Anyhow i hope he got his problem fixed.
