Problems with editing alinks

Not sure if this is specifically an alinks issue or if something else has caused it
Running Drupal 5.3
Somehow I have created alinks in the system using the same term.
I cannot edit either, nor can i delete.
I have manually changed the names in the alinks table and can still not edit or delete?
First is this a bug? can someone else reproduce it ?
Second if it is a bug, is there a way of performing a check for exisiting before saving ?
Lastly assuming it is not a bug is it safe to just delete the duplicate lines from the alinks database table, or are there other locations that need looking at too?
