Interactive map

Hello.

Im thinking of creating a interactive map (of a place, not websitemap).

My Idea is as follows:

When creating a node, you are presented with a map of an area, represented as an image.
You click on the map, it registers x/y on the image, and then the node is created.
This way, the nodes created can be reached by viewing and clicking on the image.

This is for registering worth-to-see divesites in our local area, and then present it to the user in a clean way.

Any suggestions? Are there any existing modules out there that does this, or something similar?
