No idea. I've only ever tested with Apache.

Benjamin, if you'd be willing to test it out and report the results, that would be great. If you find that there are problems, I'd be happy to set myself up with a lighttpd test server and try to fix things.

Works like a charm. Tested with lighttpd 1.4

I just tested on lighttpd 1.4 with FastCGI, and it appears to be working fine. If you find any problems, please open a new issue.
