Problems in switching advanced options on and then off

To figure out what advanced options were, I turned it on. Once I figured it out, I turned it off. Then I got this message, in scary red:
* An illegal choice has been detected. Please contact the site administrator.
* An illegal choice has been detected. Please contact the site administrator.
* An illegal choice has been detected. Please contact the site administrator.
But there are no problems, AFAIK.

I think the problem originates when a select lists' default value is set to an advanced option that disappears once advanced options are unchecked.
