I have installed RC3 and doing ANY administrative task is a nightmare (I had to rise my time exceed limit to 180 s!!!!)
Jus an example: Devel says:
Executed 1422 queries in 13696.03 milliseconds. (that doesn't make sense to me)
another example
117 queries in 953.34 milliseconds
It doesn't seem a query time issue, but the fact that the page has an initial (very long) waiting time before loading. I have seen another post related to this but was for 5.x version so I have started another thread
The site is EMPTY. No news. News creation and site navigation is fast.

Followup: Using the "tamper data" plugin for firefox, it's clear that it's just the apache response that comes late.Once the resonse arrive the whole page comes blaziong fast
You wait 30 secs for the first file to come (status request:pending) and then the whole reqeusted files come very fast
There a "k" after the file extension might that be the problem?

I have the same problem
I have the same problem trying Drupal 6 after official release. In my case http://localhost/admin/xxx is loading extremely slow but http://localhost/admin request returns after timeout only empty HTML document. I have tried different versions of Apache (2.2, 2.0, without SSL), version of PHP is 5.2.5.
Interesting that CPU usage is near 5-7%... I have no idea where this bug is happened...

I had the same issue. I just installed Drupal on a local Webserver on my Computer. We're sitting behind some Firewalls/Proxys which seems to slow down drupals update-check. disabling it solved the problem.
This means, Drupal checks for updates every click in the admin, isn't it? Sounds a bit strange to me. Should'nt that be a job for cron?
