its a nice thread
i need to know more and in details please if any one can explain in details.
thanks in advance
Sure you can, the question
Sure you can, the question is, what will you do with drupal, if you are going to serve A LOT of pages, it doesn't really matter what you install, you will need a bigger server anyhow.
I don't know how much is cheap, but you can check micfo.com, they are my hosters and they have a good price for starting VPS with 256 RAM
Hope it helps.

Thanks for the answer,
Actually i want to upgrade my server from shared hosting to VPS, so i want to know if a 64MB memory VPS with i guess about 300HZ CPU is better than a regular shared hosting or not?
PS: cheap in current VPS price range is about $13-$20

Hello, you should do fine
Hello, you should do fine with a shared hoster for a basic drupal installation. I am currently upgrading mine because I will be serving videos in one of my sites, and that module requires a looooot of memory for uploading and processing them, for the rest of the system, my shared hoster was more than fine and I am using a lot of modules, up to 50 in one of my sites and I haven't had any problems at all.
Those prices look good, I found VPS installations for up to 500$
So, read the requirements for the modules, if they need anything special they will tell you.

How much visitors did u have
How much visitors did u have when you where on shared hosting? and do you use any cache module like boost?
And i figured out that shared hosting is a lot better that a VPS server with 64MB memory, because even linux needs at least 32MB memory, so only 32MB for php, apache and MySQL which obviously is not enough!
Yes they're cheap, some links :

Thanks for those links, look
Thanks for those links, look at this one, it might be useful sometime, and I think that the idea is good.
https://www.nearlyfreespeech.net/services/hosting.php
For the last month:
1674 visitors (almost double in visits)
259.61 Mb
72361 Hits
This are rough numbers, but you can get the picture, this sites are just beginning and they have been doing fine, it is not a lot of traffic, but they serve a lot of images and I have a cron process every 15 min retrieving feeds.
And according to whois, I share that place with 400 other websites, and I can't tell for their traffic.
There is something very truth about shared hosting, you get what you pay for.
I am getting a better idea of the advantages of a vps, you get A LOT of control over your server, you can restart it at will, install stuff, more stats, and so on.
If the price is good and you can pay it, I say you take it.
But you are correct, 64 total including linux is not going to do it. One of those links you mentioned even state the RAM including swap!!
Well, I hope the information helps.
Let me know if you need anything else.

wow, thanks. great link, i
wow, thanks. great link, i didn't know such a solution exists! i did some investigation , although it lacks some important features like cron jobs but seems good.

I found this during the investigation (cheapest VPS i ever seen 128MB $14.95/month!!):

And again many thanks for statistics , helps a lot. i think i should be fine with shared hosting for a year specially now that i setup boost module (such a great module). after that i should definitely go for VPS. i hope until then Xen engine becomes fully stable.

I'm glad that you liked the link, I thought it would be useful information.
I read those reviews, very useful too.
And yes, those are cheap vps, and I have to be honest, I am glad I have my hoster, I don't know if it is the best, but it is good enough. it is crazy!!! There are a lot of options and in the end you don't know where they will fail, this one is cheap and unstable, this one has no bandwidth, this one I can't upgrade latter on for a descent price ... I hope you find something that you like.
When I first started with this guys my site would be down like 3 times a day for at least 10 min, I was about to leave when I got an email telling me that they where doing an upgrade in their servers, and it was goood, now I have no complains regarding uptime or speed, and they have constant promos and stuff.
I really wish you good luck in your projects, keep us posted.
If you have any further questions don't hesitate in contacting me for anything I can help.
