I'm trying to configure i18n module. I was a bit scared and didn't know how to patch files but after asking a friend to do it, i gave it a try. Didn't like the idea of patching the core files, but after reading some discussions i understood why it is needed.
It seems to work very well, except for the blocks. I made every language dependant thing i needed, except that. I got, for example, a menu linking to some parts of the site. I need this to be language dependant. I already tried to configure it to show the blocks only at "en" or "en/*" but that doesn't work. Does anyone know how to do this?
I'm running 4.6 Drupal and the 4.6 i18n module.

Language dependant blocks with i18n module
I'm also trying to get blocks to appear/disappear according to language. I've got blocks to show only on pages: en/* or no/* (bilingual english/norwegian setup, Drupal 4.6.6/i18n)
This works for most of my pages. My main problem is the front page. If this is set to be "node", then none of my language dependant blocks appear. If the front page is set to be a spesific page, the blocks appear correctly.
None of the language dependant blocks appear on the admin-pages. This is not a problem for me, but might be useful information for troubleshooting.
I guess the question is: how do I specify a block to show on a Norwegian front page and not on the English front page (and the reverse) when the front page i set to "node"?
Check the last version of
Check the last version of i18n. It has a new module called i18nblocks which helps you manage language dependant blocks.
As for having language blocks at front end you need to check i18n settings. There is an option to have the default front page be language dependant. Choose language dependant and you shoud see your language dependants blocks also.

i18nblocks solved the problem
Thanks for that info. I did have the latest i18n, but I didn't quite understand how the i18nblocks worked. The only setting for this is "number of metablocks". How to take it from there was beyond my comprehension. Then I suddenly spotted a new block-type named "multilingual block" which, to my delight, solved my problem.
have you tried i18nblocks on ver 4.7 yet?
i18nblocks is not compatible with drupal 4.7 and I wonder how to work around this problem...
i18n is not yet 4.7 fully
i18n is not yet 4.7 fully compatible but I believe it will be in the next few weeks. Many of us are hoping so!
