Could you clarify for me how this works with or supersedes the existing OG email subscriptions? Currently, with your module installed, the user sees on their account edit page three or four mail-related fieldsets and this is very confusing. There are: Private message settings, Organic Groups Settings, Notifications settings, and Messaging settings. Oh, and throw in the Contact settings fieldset which also sounds similar. It seems to me that these would be better displayed under one "Messaging" fieldset or something.
But I'm getting off track -- what I really want to know is whether users need to select either "Selectively send email notification based on the checkbox for each of my group's My Subscription page" or "Always send email notifications" to get email digests from your module, or if they can subscribe to posts even if they selected "Never send email notifications. Useful when tracking activity via RSS feed instead." Or are these options independent? If so, will they conflict? If these controls are not needed, could you provide an option to hide them?
Also, I see references to mail digests, but no explicit settings. Does setting the interval to anything other than "As soon as possible" create a digest of posts? Perhaps the help text should be updated to reflect that if so.

rconstantine commentedOh, I forgot in the second paragraph above to include the actual group subscription pages that each group has; i.e. what do we do with those? Are they redundant with the rest (if the rest is redundant)?

gustav commentedYou may be interested in the plugin for Organic Groups subscriptions (http://drupal.org/projects/subscriptions_og) for the Subscriptions module. We would be interested in your comments about the user and admin interface described for that module.

rconstantine commentedI already commented on your specs and you responded last week! As you now know via email, I'm looking more toward this module because it is much closer to being finished and I can't use a module that doesn't yet exist on a project that is 'right now'. I would love to test an alternative if that's possible at the moment. Otherwise, I'll have to stick with notifications by default.

jose reyero commentedHi rconstantine,
This notifications_group module only provides for now very basic group subscription features. So if you only need that email notifications for group postings possibly you'll be better off with the og module.
However if you want different types of subscriptions to be handled in a uniform way, plus the message templating and digesting features, or other sending methods like SMS, you may like this module.
However this is a big framework to handle generic subscriptions/messaging. Thus our focus won't be on adding features to that single module -though all patches and suggestions are welcomed- but on making all the subscription and messaging types work together.
Btw, Moshe seems to be looking into doing some better og-notifications integration: http://www.tejasa.com/node/149
