Summary: Drupal 6 creates the structure: sites/default/files/*. This directory structure then has to be removed by with superuser privileges or web user group privileges.
To reproduce: Install drupal 6 on a shared hosting service that does not give superuser or webgroup user access to its customers. Try to delete the files associated with drupal 6.
Expecting: to be able to delete the files
What happened instead: can't delete the files. Had to make stupid scripts to strong-arm the deletion of several hidden files & directories.
Customers should expect to be able to delete the directory structure resulting from an unpack/install without custom scripting or having to have their hosting service intervene. Many (if not most) customers are on shared servers and don't have SU or even webgroup privileges.
