Today, we're releasing the beta of the Drupal Newsroom Module and would like to ask for feedback from the Drupal community:
The Drupal Newsroom module provides a page for your Drupal-powered Web site with news stories based on specific topic(s) from NewsCloud.com or populated by your staff or site members. The newsroom module allows your members to browse headlines, read stories, vote, comment and post new articles.
The Drupal Newsroom provides a way to add dynamic current events and news to your Drupal-based Web site. It's also a great way to stimulate involvement and discussion in your online member community.
The Drupal Newsroom allows organizations on different Web sites to collaborate, selecting stories for a topic-based newsroom, sharing the content and discussions from their site with other like-minded groups.
Learn more or download the beta at the NewsCloud Wiki.
Please send feature requests and bug reports to jeff@newscloud.com. This module was developed by Dave Tarc. Thanks to Alex and Rob at Social Signal for helping in the specification of the module features.

Drupal Newsroom now in module directory
It's also now posted to the module directory and the CVS tree. Enjoy!
briliant - but ONE huge request
so i'm about to launch a new region-specific site, and got all excited when i read about google entering topix.com's 'local news' space - but newscloud is way behind on this...and not sure why, couldn't you possible ask users to geocode/tag stories upon submission if they are local? that would be very cool..even just by state, city, country, anything...
any chance this could expand to support topix.com or google news (local, national, etc) - seems much more flexible as an info source considering the content agreements they have in place (particularly major portals like google, msn, yahoo, et al)
as it stands now, it's a great idea, and very well executed, but it's just like more of the same if it's a main news hole (not your tool, i mean all 'news dumps'), though i love the execution and integration into drupal...that would encourage users to perhaps submit, which brings me full circle to the local news issue, tagging by town./city.state etc...
[[btw, came back to edit this because i realize how moronic it is to ask you guys to consider other sites as news sources, particularly those not supporting voting etc...but perhaps this is an idea for another mod developer looking to use elgoog's api's for news inside drupal]]
Thanks Zilla!
Great feedback! Our community at NewsCloud is still relatively small but growing. We will add geo-tagging in the future.
This module is mostly meant to let Drupal-based community sites seed their own stories. However, in the near future, we could add content from RSS feeds from other sites. e.g. NY Times, et al. I assume this is what you mean.
yes..
like nytimes or any site - and there's already some powerful aggregation utility built into drupal (including the module delivered with core)...
How we plan to use it....
We have two scenarios for using Newsroom with our clients:
1 - engaging your supporters: Invite your supporters to be part of a news gathering, tracking and response team by setting up Newsroom on your site. Now your supporters can help build out your site's news content -- increasing the content offered on your site and deepening your supporters' engagement.
2 - social media monitoring: Newsroom offers a flexible and powerful alternative to something like PageFlakes. Not only can you gather the news into one place by setting up feeds, but now you can annotate and discuss the results with your colleagues.
Congratulations Jeff on bringing Newsroom to Drupal -- and thank you!
