Is there any way to get this to work on blocks as well? Thanks!

Not with the module as currently designed. There's a whole bunch of "fix filter options" modules around, as well as a push to make filtering more flexible come Drupal 7 that Gobor is working on. Absent a patch, I'm going to leave block handling to those efforts.
