I'd also like to see a configurable setting for giving karma to people who click external links. Perhaps this is something that can be incorporated into, or in conjunction with, the extlinks module. In this way, traffic driving is encouraged, which will help grow the user base.

sikjoy commentedI've got another take on this: I find that most users on a Drigg site don't even bother registering to vote, yet they still frequent the site and follow the links. These clicks are really a testament to the popularity of the scoop. It would be nice to keep track of them, even if separately from the scoop's karma.
I don't really see the value in rewarding users for following external links, but I might be persuaded if someone presented a strong argument.

summit commentedHi,
I will continue on this thread, as you made the http://drupal.org/node/244124 a duplicate.
Looking forward to the solution. Would be great to test it for you!
greetings,

mercmobily commentedHi,
Sicjoy, I saw your email.
Please see my comments and simply apply the patch. I would like to start dividing up the module. So, we need to make sure there are no pending patches (old patches will stop working, since I am slicing the living heck out of the module!)

sikjoy commentedOK - This will make it into Drigg 2. The javascript is working, but the module has an impotent stub. ;o)

mercmobily commentedHi,
Sicjoy, you were going to look into this... any news?

sikjoy commentedI created a separate module, External Link Popularity. It registers a vote with voting api under the tag "pop_links" when a user follows an external link. It provides a block showing which scoops are receiving the most clicks.
I tested it with drigg and it is functioning. It's currently very basic, but in conjunction with voting actions, it can do things like promote to front page etc.

OK :-D

mercmobily commentedHi,
I think I should close this issue, because really, it seems to be completely unrelated to Drigg. If anything, it's something that will give people karma... I think it's best to close this issue since it's "unrelated"; when you write your module, we'll make sure people will be able to get karma when they click on links.
OK? :-D

sikjoy commentedAgreed! The module is available for download if anyone wants to test it.

mercmobily commentedHi,
Did you create a new module?
If so, please add a link here :-D
Thanks!
