with mbstring enabled, the email for username and password reset/query does not work.
Instead I appear to get encrypted data back.

not sure if this is a bug, or mail configuration issue.

I'm unsure of this, but can you please more information? Server/version details etc. And if you can test this with the 4.7 betas or HEAD, that will be excellent.

This can only happen if mbstring function overloading is enabled, which is explicitly unsupported.
