Does anyone know if there are plans to facilitate private forums in Drupal 6.0? I can't seem to find any info as to the porting of certain modules that may make this possible with the default forums...
Thoughts?
I'm trying to decided if I should hold out for modules to be ported or simply go with the PHPBB bridge that is available.
Thanks,
Ted

I would suggest you to use Advanced Forums module compiled and maintained by Michelle here:
http://drupal.org/project/advanced_forum
Most also if you are creating a new forum with new content, if there are design issues you don't like, it's mostly an issue for theming, so it's possible pretty easy to solve. Also I suggest you to checkout this group DruBB at http://groups.drupal.org/drubb
Good luck and if you have any questions I can try to help.

I have private forums running with Taxonomy Access control. Could not a similar mechanism be used in 6.0?

Thanks for the replies!
The problem I am seeing right now is that none of the modules that are required to implement this functionality have been ported to 6 and there is no indication that they will be.
This is why I am confused.

Unfortunately is Drupal 6 immature with module support and you will have to wait atleast 3-6 months before you will see any good lightening in its maturity.
Go for Drupal 5.7 and like suggested before use Taxanomy with access restrictions.
