I've seen some discussion on making a location CCK field and was wondering if this is slated for V3? Even if it isn't, is this something still in the works? If so, do you think there'll be an upgrade path for those of us using V2 to migrate our data to a location CCK?

A cck field was created for the 3.0 release. It's supported alongside "regular" locations, and switching regular locations over to a cck field is doable with a little bit of sql-fu. (Although there currently isn't a push-a-button method to migrate.)
