I've followed the instructions (made a backup of the installation and db), disabled modules and themes, and put the site in offline mode.
When I load update.php, and before I start the actual upgrade, I get the following:

Well, since I'd already proven that my file and database backups worked, I decied to continue with the upgrade after getting this error, and everything seems to have worked just fine.
