I have extracted the file - but it's still a tar file. Am I supposed to be saving this somewhere specific? Does this not work on XP? I have saved the file in program files, extracted it by all sorts of programs, but guess what... it's still a tar file. That is a unix file, not windows. So.... now what? I'm definitely missing something about this whole idea.
I need drupal 101. instructions! I have no clue what I'm doing. I applied for a job that uses this and am trying to figure it out incase I get the job! NOW WHAT? It actually installed in my Dreamweaver program, but it looks pretty confusing to me at this point. Is this a good thing?
I really appreciate your time! (can you tell I'm a newbie developer yet?)
download the tar.gz to your desktop
open the tar.gz archive
extract the contents to your desktop
if it is another .tar ball
extract it again using the newly extracted .tar

drupal has to be installed on a server or in a server environment.
windows XP won't run Drupal unless you've installed the necessary software. Like Apache, PHP and MySQL
use google to learn about the programs themeselves. I will inform you that setting up a server environment on yoru home computer isn't for the faint of heart.

whew... there lies the problem. It would be most helpful for users new to the whole concept to have that first instruction "drupal has to be installed on a server or in a server environment" on the download page. If it's there, I missed it.
I appreciate your concerns and assistance advise - I have MSQL - both going on a dedicated computer.
Thanks -
