I am trying to do some insert queries in 2.0 Beta. node and node_revisions both have a unique index on vid.

vid is vocabulary id right? How can each node have a unique vocabulary id? Am I not understanding something?

I think vid in that context means version ID. Nodes don't actually know anything about taxonomy; instead, taxonomy knows about nodes. (Say that three times really fast.)
