Not sure if this is the best place for this - please let me know if I should be posting elsewhere.

I'm hosting a drupal-based site with 1and1, and I'm trying to get image uploads and dynamic resizing (via image_assist) working. I realise 1and1 isn't the best hosting company out there, but at this point I can't change.

I've found that 1and1's installation of GD image-toolkit can't cope with large jpeg files (2MB and above) - so I'm trying to find an alternate image-toolkit. Image-magick seems like a good option, but 1and1 don't supply this by default.

All tutorials I've found for installing image-magick on 1and1 servers would require me to compile the binaries myself. As I don't have root access, I'm unable to do this..

so, I'm wondering if anyone could supply me with the pre-compiled binaries for 1and1? (alternatively any advice would be much appreciated...I'm kind of stuck)

thought i'd give an update... didn't manage to find anyone with the precompiled binaries and was told that the compilation process adds files to the filesystem which can't be transfered using ftp by the support staff at 1and1 - so I ended up upgrading my package for 1 month to gain root access and perform the necessary compilation.

it seems pretty rubbish that 1and1 users should have to pay anything to get support for image magick.

If anyone needs image magick, uses 1and1 and wants to have a go at uploading the pre-compiled binaries to their own space, get in contact and we can try it out.

they wouldn't compile it on the server for you? Seems like a pretty basic thing to have on the server. And poor customer service if they wouldn't.

I just hope they don't transfer you to another server after the month is up.

I just gave 1and1 a call and they told me the same, that I'd need to upgrade my package for SSH access so I could install it myself. I'd be grateful if you could provide the files so I could avoid this injustice!
