Here's one way
Are you referring to the book module itself? If so, then all I know how to do is make all book module content accessible to certain users only. To do this, create a new user role by going to administer > users > roles, and create a new role then go to the user permissions page and assign that new role permission to view book content. Also, de-select the check box giving authenticated users and anonymous users permission to view this content type.
This will also work for any other content type. If you use CCK to create a content type, ou'll be able to limit who views it on the permissions page, based on the users role.
Hope this helps!

CCK
Thanks for your reply.
I am able to set new role (employee). I checked permissions>book modules and node module, seems can't find "view book content" option, the only thing I can find is "access content" under "node module".
Will look CCK functions though.
Thanks,
Gary
Sorry
I've never used the book module. I assumed it would work like other content.
