Everything is installed fine, but why the following big red warning just for a disabled "Update notifications"?

One or more problems were detected with your Drupal installation. Check the status report for more information.

If i don't want updates that's my choice, and then it should either be a notice or nothing at.
Afterall it's not really a security issue, or is Drupal like Windows OS???

I doubt you people want to be associated with M$... LOL!

Yep, it's your choice. That's why you can go to admin/reports/updates/settings in your drupal install and disable update checking for any module. Or you visit admin/build/modules and disable the update module altogether.

At which pages does this message appear? (Can't check it myself unfortunately, my local web server is having some issues). If it is only shown at the status pages it's no really big deal. If it's shown at every admin page it is.

It's only on the /admin page but that's the page you visit a lot due to the fact that it is the entrance to your website management.

As some of you know i also develop my own CMS's and something that connects from one server to another server for version checking is something that the website owner decides.
Afterall, when http://updates.drupal.org/release-history is down, how do you think drupal_http_request() will cope with that?
Right it will crash the site because the 15 seconds in its fsockopen() routine is not for "connecting" it is for timeout.
Been there, done that, trashed it.

So why bother admins who have no clue about code/server management with a red useless box about a disabled Update feature?
