I like the look of this module and was wondering if a Drupal 6-compatible version would be available anytime soon. Please advise. Thanks.

Not likely as there are several other modules which have surpassed this functionality.

BTW, you are leaving the non-CCK users in a lurch here. Only 12% of my sites use CCK.
