How can i remove this "circles" in navigation menu.

I had a similar issue with the menu 'bullets' not displaying well with the colours of a site. I edited the images in the "misc/" folder - perhaps this could help as a temporary fix/botch?!

The relevant images are:
menu-collapsed.png
menu-expanded.png
menu-leaf.png
