Drupal's comments on forum posts should not be segregated from the main post or really be distinguished all that differently. As a forum is just everyone contributing "comments", they should really blend in with the original post. Advanced_forum takes this approach, as do other forum software. This would entail reshaping a little the default display of forum so that it's a little different from the rest of the nodes.
I'm assigning this to critical as there have been many complaints scattered around the series of tubes that discuss the lack of a good forum module for Drupal (in terms of all the "extras" other forums provide as well as the bad theming). If enough people say it, maybe there's something to it...

michelleHow the forum node looks as compared to the comments is just theming, so this really isn't critical. And this is probably a moot point, anyway, since, if all goes well, the forum module will be changing drastically in D7 and this issue won't even make sense anymore.
