How can you redirect visitors from going to a user's profile page (user/x) to that user's Bio node (/node/xxxxxxx)?

I am wondering the same thing. A little documentation would be helpful. Or maybe I am missing it?

/admin/user/bio

there is a checkbox to "takeover profile". I haven't tried it but I think that is the key.

As mdowsett suggests, "Takeover profile" should do the trick.
