Hi everybody, pretty new to Drupal, been using it for a couple months. Really loving it, but need the community's help on this one. I'm creating a site that is supposed to have a document repository where users can upload files. From there only certain user roles can access the files. I also want to use the taxonomy system to tag files, but don't know how to incorporate it with uploads. Currently I've been using webfm to manage files. Can I just create a new content type and have it linked in with uploads/attachments and have tagging work on that? I've looked through the contributed modules and tried searching the forums, but can't find anything that applies. I'm sure this has been handled before, but my lack of knowledge makes my searching somewhat obsolete. Any help or suggestions on creating a simple document repository section would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Sorry for the friendly bump, guess the thread just got overlooked. Nobody out there with some experience in creating files sections with Drupal? Even a nice, nope!, or maybe a relevant "you're a newb go look here!" flame post would be better than silence :( . Anyways, just trying to figure things out! Thanks for any help in advance! Cya!

WebFM wasn't designed with taxonomy in mind but you could think of directory structure as a kind of taxonomy. It isn't difficult to build a custom module that classifies and accesses files by path. If you've never made your own module before it isn't as daunting as it sounds. There are plenty of help resources on d.o.
