Drupal is a Framework suitable for any type of site from the small brochure type sites to the feature rich social networking type sites.

strengths
Drupal's strengths lie in its flexibility for developers. Anything which developers have put much time into (like taxonomy, blogging, organic groups) will be very strong. Drupal's APIs are its greatest strength.
Drupal's weaknesses are that it's a rather heavyweight system (though, it's my understanding that its still smaller and more efficient than Joomla) and that it assumes a certain required architecture. If you're looking at something with a strange backend architecture, Drupal might not be the right fit. But these situations are the exception, rather than the rule. It all depends on what you want to do.
