I've added the function _phptemplate_variables stated in the documentation to the top of the theme, as it did not exist. However, none of the User information (left side of post with avatar, etc.) will show.

I'm attaching the template.php file as it is after my addition.

Any help you can provide would be great.

There is no need to modify template.php for Drupal 6 so adding that won't do anything. I'll update the docs to reflect that when the port is finished. I'm still in the middle of it which is why the project page says not to use the devs.
