I am new to Drupal and I am having a hard time understanding the way the forum works, I understand how to promote a forum topic to the front page but can't get to grips with the forum itself as it doesn't seem to exist as such or should I say it's not like any other forum I have ever worked with. What I am trying to achieve is putting the whole forum on the front page showing categories and active topics. I am getting addicted to Drupal but its also driving me insane. I don't want to bridge to another "normal" forum as I have managed to figure out a way of making a private message board (not private messaging in the normal sense) which isn't possible in phpbb or SMF without a major recode. Thanks in advance.

goto administer -> site information
set the default front page to forum
