I have been playing with Drupal 6 for a few days and greatly enjoying it's potential.

I would like to investigate some of the features in Drupal 5 that are not quite ready for Drupal 6 yet (eg CCK and Views )

Is it possible to install Drupal 5 on my local machine alongside the current Drupal 6 installation ?

Would installing another Apache2Triad to a new location on my hard drive and installing Drupal 5 in that work ?

Also, you may try The Uniform Server. It does not require any installation (just unzip it to any directory, even to a USB flash drive or external HDD to make your demo site portable).
If, however, you already have Apache+PHP+MySQL environment running on your local machine, it should not be any problem installing multiple instances of Drupal 5, Drupal 6, and other CMSs in different directories and connecting them to different databases.

Thanks very much for the info guys. Yes, I do already have Apache+PHP+MySQL running - so I'll try to just install Drupal 5 and connect it to a new database.

I didn't see your comment until now. The installation of Drupal 5.7 went well, and I am now playing with CCK and Views etc.
I had a bit of trouble when trying to follow the instructions for installation from the Drupal.org site, but when I tried again following the instructions in the David Mercer book "Creating Blogs, Forums, Portals, and Community Websites", things went fine.

Hi Gordon,
That's OK. We all here work for free and with passion, even we do not know each other. That is the great of Drupal.org. Glad that you go on with your tasks.
See you ( no, hear you .. no, read you!)
