I've been googling like crazy looking for answers in an attempt to create a photographer's website. The needs are
1) batch upload
2) private galleries
3) checkboxes for selecting specific gallery images & emailing
I know Drupal can handle #2, but #1 & 3 seem to be the domain of the Gallery plugin. Am I correct in seeing that this isn't possible in Drupal without a custom module or two involved?

Gallery can do all of this
Not to chase you away from Drupal, but Gallery 2 can handle all of 1, 2 and 3. There's Gallery Remote for batch uploading without your web browser, an extensive user and group system built in, public and private albums (good for public portfolios as well as client albums) and a shopping cart module for ordering.
The Gallery module likes to embed Gallery within Drupal pages which can get (a) cramped) and (b) confusing. What would you be wanting Drupal to do for you on your site?
Thanks for the quick
Thanks for the quick response. I'm only thinking of Gallery to be used for proofing. I suppose the main thing is that I've never used it and would want to stick to what I know (Drupal) for the bulk of the site. It would be a general portfolio site, optimized for search engine marketing. There would be a need for non-proofing galleries too, and I thought thumbnails & Lightbox would work for them.
otoh - if Gallery can do it all, perhaps it is the better choice. I have to think of what the future needs may be. I suppose if I build a Gallery site and have the need for Drupal later (for whatever purpose), I suppose I can switch to Drupal with the Gallery module. But that's something I'd rather take care of now rather than later.
I'm guessing you're familiar with Gallery - what would be cramped and/or confusing? Is it not possible to just have the gallery thumbnails in the Drupal content area, or are there other layout elements (blocks, etc.) involved? Also, how flexible is it for theming? I know I can design easily for Drupal.
