Is there anything more sophisticated and user-friendly than Simplenews module?

I'm looking for an easy way for people to sign up for newsletters. But I'm also looking for a module that will be easy to use by newletter editors who are not too technologically literate.
While Simplenews seems to be a great module, my suspicion is that it might be too complicated for the newsletter editors.
Would you recommend a better module for subscribing to e-mail updated and for maintaining e-mail lists?

I haven't found anything any simpler that works inside of Drupal. There are other options though.
It seems like a lot of people use an external service (Dreamhost and probably other shared hosting companies do this for free for their customers). In that case, you would have to paste the code they give you (just a simple form) into a block or somewhere in your site (you might have to modify the form with your information), and the service takes care of managing the mailing list and sending things out.
