Weblink / Directory module confusion

Ok, upgraded to Drupal 4.6 and upgraded the Weblink to the CVS version (which supports 4.6). From the changelog it looks like the interface to the weblink module has been removed completely. Therefore, no more accessing http://host.com/weblink. Instead the interface is implemented using the Directory module. So now you access the weblink module through http://host.com/directory. First, is this correct? Second, can I have the old interface back?

Not to sound ungrateful, but I find the directory interface too generic and I rather liked the old interface. I'm looking for something simple for my blog and the old interface fit the bill. The directory module looks interesting; especially being able to list taxonomy terms like at http://www.ent.iastate.edu/list/. However, when setting it up as an interface to the weblink module, I just want to display the terms associated with weblinks. It seems that if I do that, then the whole directory module is associated with that term, and can not be used for other terms. I'm also having problems with the directory module not honoring my settings by only showing the weblink terms, but I understand that it is still very much beta (so much so that it is not listed as a module project).

So, to repeat my question, is my view of the modules correct? If my understanding of the two modules is correct, and there is no intent to add the old interface back, I may look into writing my own module for this purpose.
