It will take time until the contributed modules are updated to Drupal 6.x
check the issues query for projects you are interested in and their progress toward Drupal 6.x
If using Drupal 6.x isn't absolutley necessary you can always develop your site using Drupal 5.x and when all modules you decide to use are updated to Drupal 6.x , you can then upgrade.

Hi there, I'm completely new
Hi there,
I'm completely new to Drupal - switching over after many years as a Geeklog user (and developer).
Can you point me to the "issues query"? I look at the page for "Images" and see that the 6.1 release of the module is still just a "development snapshot". Where can I get an idea of just how close they are to a release for 6.1?
thanks
I'm sorry, but...
...are you saying that one cannot add images to a drupal site (ex: stories, blogs, etc) until new modules are developed by third parties?
Why wouldn't these have been developed and released with release of Drupal 6.x? I've installed Drupal 6 thinking I've had the "latest and greatest" only to find out that it doesn't have all the functionality of the earlier release? Please correct me if I'm wrong - would appreciate your input.
As you may have guessed, I'm pretty new at this - having only touched Drupal 5 awhile back. Would also be eternally grateful if you could point me to some "beginner setup documentation" for Drupal 6. Is there anything for Drupal 6.x like there is for Drupal 5.x over at "the Drupal School" - http://www.theartlab.net/podcast/drupal-school. This site has proved invaluable as going through each video demo in sequence has been extremely helpful.
I'm finding doing things as simple as setting up the nav and internal links - for me anyway - is fairly confusing, and could use all the help available.
Thanks,
kstagg
I'm currently following this
I'm currently following this guide for Drupal 5 which seems to apply to the largest degree to Drupal 6 as well.
http://drupal.org/node/120613
So far I've been happy with it.
As for images - it seems you can still attach images to stories (or nodes) but there is no image module in and of itself (e.g. if you want a user to be able to have their own photo gallery, I guess). But don't take my word as gospel because I'm very new here too
No Inline Image Support ????
I agree. I'm not a happy camper about not having inline image support in Drupal 6. You would think this would be pretty standard. It is frustrating that I spent the last 2 days trying to find a way to have inline images...There are more allowed tags on this website than the product they are producing.
Is there an "easy" way to go back to Drupal 5 without uninstalling everything?

no, there is no downgrade path. To revert to Drupal 5.x you would have to start over.

Don't worry
I am also completely confused by just about everything in Drupal. I know I will understand it in a few days but all this node stuff does my head in.
And you think they would have pictures as standard eh? People LIKE pictures! aNyway - thanks for your "drupal school" link - I'm gonna have a look. I need some EASY walk through.
D6 does support inline Images
I have both 5.7 and 6.1 sites and they both support inline images. It all depends on now many images you want and who controls them.
For the HTML hack, it's easy to code the images in directly - but I assume that isn't what you desire.
After spending way too much time with TinyMCE, I switched to FCKEditor module which supports both Drupal 5.x and 6.x. The editor itself is well-supported by FCKeditor with several optional plug-ins.
For most uses, I've found FCKeditor to work very well. There are some minor cache issues between it and Firefox in some cases, i.e. inserting Google Maps, but these are very narrow issues that should soon be resolved. You can try the editor on their Web site.
Another method for entering any content item is to use a blogging tool with the Blog API which is a core module.
Don't worry about the name "blogging", these tools can be used to post content to most nodes. I'm building a site now where the users will use an off-site blogging tool to input news items, featured stories, and blogging. In theory, these site owners would rarely need to log on to Drupal.
I've tried ScribeFire which is a Firefox plug-in and Google Docs (surprise to me) and finally, Windows Live Writer. Windows Live Writer is a typically bloated MS product but it works.
I've read that you could also use Word 2007 but I haven't tried it.

P.S. I get as frustrated as most, but then I remind myself that Drupal and all of the modules are contributed by hundreds of individuals who have put in thousands, perhaps millions of people-hours for our benefit.

I tried ScribeFire too &
I tried ScribeFire too & found it easy enough.
In fact I tried a whole load of ways to do this & the one I found I preferred was using wbloggar.
Here is a good guide on getting it to work with drupal :

which is part of the user guide "Alternative ways to enter content" http://drupal.org/node/6269
