Upgrade to 5.x-1.3 breaks create node profile on registration

All of my users are created by the systems administrator and all require two node profile nodes to be prefilled by the administrator. As such, I've checked "Show this node profile during user registration." for each of these two nodes. This has worked quite well in 5.x-1.1 and 5.x-1.2.

However, when I upgrade to 5.x-1.3 or the current nightly 5.x-1.x-dev, I am receiving the error:

The username Foo Bar does not exist.

I believe this is happening because one or the other of the nodes is being created before the user.

I use some other modules that hook into the user registration screen too that I disabled and confirmed that the problem is still occurring without them. I also tried shifting the weights both positive and negative of the nodes on their node profile screen and that didn't help either.
