Hi,
I tried to search on this topic but only found some very old threads. They just confirmed that this isn't appropriate behavior.
I'm stuck - I've tried enable, disabling various modules, but I can't figure out why I can't get "read more" to go away if there is no more to read. It's really annoying!
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!
Comments
should happen automatically...
Hi Phil..
that should happen automatically...just a long shot..but, is it possible the theme is inserting the links regardless?
Try changing to a different default theme in case it's something in the theme that is doing that. the core drupal code should automatically hide/show "read more" links when appropriate by default.
Alternatively...have a look at this thread here:

Hope that helps..

Thanks for your help Dub,
Thanks for your help Dub,
I tried a number of different themes - and it was the same in each of them, as well of as with different types of content. I saw one post which suggested maybe this as by design - because comments, etc., are only on the full page, but I've got comments disabled for this post and anyway there would be a comment link if that was appropriate.
I'm wondering if there was a conflict with some module. I installed most of the ones on there for 4.6, but I've been deactivitating them and trying again - with no good results.
I'm glad to hear that this is not normal though!
I did see the thread you mentioned and couldn't really make sense of it. I tried inserting it into the template and had the similar results. I don't really know PHP, so I might've been doing something wrong. Is there a particular part I should pay attention to? And if the problem is the theme, it should've resolved when I switched to a new theme...
Any more ideas would be appreciated. Thanks again,
John
not sure..
Sorry John. nothing obvious springs to mind...
- what theme are you using?
- have you installed the teaser/excerpt modules by any chance?
Worth going to their settings page under admin-->>modules-->>settings to double check that the defaults are okay..I seem to remember that the excerpt module allows you to specify what appears before the read more link..
- do the nodes have attachments but no body text ?
That's really a stab in the dark John...but worth checking if you have installed an extra module(s).

Good job!
Good job! I had tried tweaking the settings of the excerpt module, but I went ahead and disabled it completely. This worked.
I guess this is a bug in the module then? I'm gonna miss it's functionality, but maybe it will get fixed soon?
Thanks again,
It's great to have a support community like this.
