Description

seems default should be a collapsed 2 line box for item description, not a huge box. descriptions should be encouraged to be VERY short because of how they display in column view!! if people see the big box, then "cut and paste" from some site then that column page is a nightmare...

How about a solution that limits how much shows up in the column display rather than limiting what can be put in? This way the full node and teaser displays can still show full details, but the column can show the first 100 or so characters with a 'read more' link.

It sounds like the result you want is a cleaner summary display to keep each row from growing too tall when the description is large. Would this work for you?

absolutely - that's actually a much better idea too (e.g. give admin ability to set at X characters [or default to 25 followed by an ellipsis ...])
