Drupal as Business Directory?

dallenvt - March 2, 2008 - 21:03

Hi,

One of the main goals of my site using Drupal is to build a directory of all the businesses in our city. I have started adding a few businesses, with pictures and a menu, so far so good.

The problem comes to adding tables/fields for business contact information, such as address, email, phone, web address, etc.. Instead of just adding that information to each 'story' I now am making for each business, I am thinking someone else must have taken on the challenge of enhancing the schema and forms to have a lot of additional fields per story, including some sort of special processing for a directory-type data store.

Am I hoping for too much out of the box?

Any guidance anyone can offer will be extremely much appreciated. So far, the Drupal world has been producing for me one rabbit out of a hat after another, so I have my fingers crossed on this one.

Best regards,
dallenvt

Are you referring to input

Are you referring to input forms that your users submit to create this directory?

forms for creating a directory

I guess I am looking for forms I can drop into my existing drupal installation for collecting business directory informatation.. and the directory entries have to be connected or usable in drupal stories/content

Does that help clarify?

Only a new drupler here but

Thank you. After the long pause, I was thinking I must have asked one of those retard questions unix people hate newcomers asking, feeling people should always have found whatever vague references might exist in the documentation to the obvious solution once you know it, instead of wasting people's time on questions that should not have to be re-answered.

I owe a few helpful answers to the dumb newcomers behind me in line.

For what it's worth, I had figured out there must be something like what you directed me to, so my next stop, after the silent-treatment here, was to search for it. I really appreciate your taking the moment to nod your head in the direction I need to go.

See ya down the road a bit.

YOU are the ONE!
