installed and enabled, cleared cache and ran update.php - clicked 'content management' and saw:

$map_array =
$index =Array

(both with little green buttons next to them just like 'site operating in offline mode' etc)

no visible 'content template' under 'admin' anywhere (maybe i'm blind, honestly, who knows)

...and oddly, the update status module is seeing .4 and saying 'update to .3....odd....

problem has been taken care of for the next release.

To answer your other questions:
no visible 'content template' under 'admin' anywhere - You should see "Content Templates" under Administer->Content Management-> Content Templates

I don't know why the update status module sees .4 and recommends .3.

And this does work without CCK because it doesn't rely on CCK for anything, it is not officially a part of CCK but does offer some CCK like functionality.

Any other problems?

nope - i'll wait for the next release and let you know if anything strange happens. may be a conflict with another module (if i see it with .5 then i'll come back and list possible culprits, though not sure which one it could be...)
