I have been working on this all day at the code sprint, but it did not get anywhere due to jQuery bugs. It is out here for people to play with until I can get back to it later. Will link the l10n_client patch together.

http://drupal.org/node/231439 is the client part. We have issues with that. The debug code in the patch above is just to see how the client works. In our testing, the server works pretty fine.
