I don't think drupal is actually working software. I did everything just right and still just got a page for editing, etc. Thats it...no actual website to go to. When trying to create a forum in my admin, I get the error :: An illegal choice has been detected. Please contact the site administrator. ::
I'd like to have an actual website that drupal "promises" it can make. Not just an admin page to "pretend" that I'm creating a community with forum, events, etc.
Somebody show me an actual website community that someone made using drupal, please.

See http://drupal.org/forum/25 to get an idea. Also if you have a particular kind of site like music, etc, search the forums for music sites,

Anyone posting on a drupal-powered website asking if there are any can't be anything but a troll or a stark raving idiot. Oops, I said the same thing twice there, didn't I?

Drupal takes a lot of wrapping your brain around it. I use 4.7 for my place so not sure its more compliant now but I know 4.7 does not work the greatest with IE and its annoying to me.

It takes a bit to really understand it and get things tweaked. It took me 6 months and 2 site crashes to get where I am and I feel sort of stable now but I back up everything because this is the last time. I've invested to much time in learning this thing to back out now.

So I'd just say if you stick with it it will work for you. You just have to learn it and submit it to your will with force and a decent amount of work.

  • NASA .. you know the guys that take rockets to the moon, one of their projects is in Drupal :-)

to name just a small handful I've found while searching the web for things.

Try typing "drupal commercial websites in Google", that'll give you an idea. Small organisations like Kinneta Systems are also using Drupal.

I am in contact with another developer who is setting up a small parrot charity using Drupal and together we are bouncing ideas of each other as I too am in the process of replacing the websites for the charity I work for. Development website: http://donkeys.metagrid.co.uk

It's definitely working. I went to a workshop last week organised by the Charities Aid Foundation and even they were promoting Drupal to charitable organisations.

Drupal requires a bit of thinking out when first starting out, and I found that I change things as I go along as I experiment with new modules. I don't call myself an expert, but still a newbie to Drupal, but have found it a brilliant CMS and am running with it.

It is well known that drupal works. The problem is that it is the internet that is broken & even worse, the users of the internet are full of bugs & there aren't any simple fixes.

But seriously, drupal can be daunting at first, but if you are prepared to learn a bit, it is really a powerful tool.
But don't expect an 'out of the box' solution.

Perhaps you made a mistake, or are in a really bad hosting environment, there are hundreds of high profile sites using Drupal, Tim Berners Lee (creator of the Internet) uses Drupal for his blog (http://dig.csail.mit.edu/breadcrumbs/blog/4), Firefox uses it for it's community (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/), and Yahoo uses it for many many internal sites (http://www.boxesandarrows.com/view/implementing_a_pattern_library_in_the...).

Obviously you are frustrated with your drupal install... keep in mind you need a few services running on the computer you are installing Drupal to, including apache 2, an fairly recent versions of PHP and mySQL - check out the documentation area, or post some more details about exactly what youv'e done and where you're hosting etc.. and maybe someone can help for you.
Don't mind the people calling you a troll, I know how frustrating it is when something works for everyone but borks as soon as you load it up. Keep at it man, drupal will save you a lot of hassles on the long run.
