I have xmlsitemap installed and can view the sitemap by going to http://www.homepcpatrol.com/sitemap.xml
I recently made some changes to a page and got the following error:
The selected file /home/homepcpa/public_html/tmp/filezVzwUq could not be uploaded, because the destination files/xmlsitemap/sitemap.xml.gz is not properly configured.
Unable to load site map. Make sure that there is an xmlsitemap directory in your files directory and that it is writable by Drupal.
I looked up the error and found several threads on deleting temp and renaming, adding or removing / in admin options etc. I have tried everything I could find on the subject and nothing seems to work.
files (777)/xmlsitemap(775)/sitemap.xml.gz(664) exists but cannot be modified. If I change the permissions on files to 777 and select to apply to all files and folders it errors and perms don't change. The same is true if I try to change them manually:
Status: Set permissions of '/public_html/files/xmlsitemap/sitemap.xml.gz' to '777'
Command: SITE CHMOD 777 sitemap.xml.gz
Response: 550 Could not change perms on sitemap.xml.gz: Operation not permitted
any thoughts on how I can fix this problem? I tried disabling the module and then CHMOD and it made no difference. I tried disabling the module and then deleting the xmlsitemap sitemap folder but could not, nor could I delete sitemap.xml.gz from within the directory.
Reenabled the module and still get the same error. Please help!
Thanks in advance

gavin_s commentedI'm having the same issue...I also had this with the user pictures functionality and could not find a fix. Seems to be a wider issue, maybe with some hosting specific slant.

Stefanos Karagos commentedI have similar problems with permissions.
Is there any solution?

dcypl commentedSame Problem, and it may be affecting pathauto url generation too?

anthonylv commentedI recently encountered this problem which cropped up for no apparent reason. Changing sitemap.xml.gz permissions to 666 fixed it.

ems-tom commentedI am having a similar problem, my sitemap.xml.gz file has dissapeared! There is no file in the folder in question by that name atall!! What do I do? I tried re-creating the file and uploading it but still got the same error.
Any ideas?
By the way the error message I got was exactly the same as the original posted in here.
Thanks

flashy commentedI am having this issue also - I can't change the permission on the files in my server - they are stuck on 0600 - it just reads 550 Could not change perms on file: No such file or directory
