Installing modules with version 6.1

soezkan - March 9, 2008 - 16:03

Hello everybody I am new in the forum!

I am an absolute beginner with drupal and I just try to install the autolocale module but
without success. Unfortunately I do not know where I can find a modules-Administration
in the Administer-Area. Somewhere was written, that you have to go in the Menu to
administer -> site configuration -> modules. But I miss the modules menu-option.
Is there a different way to install modules?

What do I do wrong? Could someone please help me with that issue?

Thanks alot,
Soezkan

????

The autolocale.module isn't built for Drupal 6.x. The functionality is built into core locale module in Drupal 6.x.

Settings for this are in administer -> languages

you can only use Drupal 6.x modules on Drupal 6.x. Drupal 5.x modules will not work on Drupal 6.x

language packs for drupal 6.x

language packs for drupal 6.x have structure, wchich you should copy to root of your drupal directory. Then, you should go to Administer - Add language and select the language you desire, and all the *.po files will be imported automatically.
There is a functionality in core of drupal 6.x, that turns on the proper language basing on ip locator, browser settings and adds an alias for languages, for example "http://domain.com/pl" for polish language (if you open the site in Poland or your browser has default language polish).
I did it and it worked fine.
Unfortunately, i have a trouble with shared hosting settings which i described here.

Thank you very much.

To unpack and move to the specified directory I can manage I guess but how do I activate it?
Wit phpmyadmin.
As I said, I cant find a Adminiter->Language and no modules menu-option.

Any more help is appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Selim

First of all as mentioned

First of all as mentioned Auto locale module is not ported to drupal 6 (?) so you need to use drupal 5 and install as I mentioned above after installing your module you won't find any place to configure settings. Because auto locale module does only simple thing. If it finds a tr.po (which I guess true for your situation) in module folder it automatically imports it. If there is no po file for defined languages it does nothing.

so would you suggest to use

so would you suggest to use version 5.x in general? Because there are much more
modules available.

Thanks,
Selim

if you can't find aminister -> language then you probably have not enabled the locale.module in the administer -> modules screen.

locale.module is part of core

It depends on your needs. If

It depends on your needs. If its basic and can be done with core modules chose Drupal 6 else its better to chose 5. Just tell what kind of features you need so people can suggest modules to use
